CHAPTER 2 | EcONOMIc VItALIt Y
39
GOALS
• Increase awareness of businesses along El Camino Real.
• Support local merchants and entrepreneurs. Ensure that El Camino Real remains a viable and competitive
economic area.
• Drive sales to businesses and increase City tax revenue.
StRAtEGIES
2N Working with local businesses, consider the estab-
lishment of a special assessment district for the El
Camino Real Corridor. Such a district would raise
revenue from participating businesses to cover
the cost of local marketing, provision of additional
parking, sidewalk beautification, and other im-
provement measures.
2O Raise awareness of El Camino Real businesses
through events and partnerships with the Redwood
City Chamber of Commerce, the San Mateo County
Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA),
Partnership Redwood City, and other organizations.
2P Improve signage and wayfinding along the Corridor
to help people locate the Transit Center, other tran-
sit facilities, loading zones, and parking locations.
Ensure that signage at transit facilities lists all transit
providers.

See additional
strategies in Chapter
4, Placemaking, for
guidance on aesthetics
and branding.
