<br />Unscheduled Services include miscellaneous services that are above and beyond routine garbage
<br />collection, such as backyard collection, key service, or additional carts. The proposed 1.72% increase in
<br />the rates for unscheduled solid waste services is based on the one year change in the U.S. Department of
<br />Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer Price Index, U.S. city average for all urban consumers.

<br />RESIDENTIAL (PROPOSED RATES)
<br />The services offered and the recommended rates are listed below.
<br /> Return Trip Cost $16.79 (per collection event) for collection service provided after the regularly
<br />scheduled collection day.
<br /> Additional Targeted Recyclable Materials or Organic Materials Cart Rental or Purchase – Rental
<br />$3.36 per month, Purchase 64 gallon cart $70.51, Purchase 96 gallon cart $77.23.
<br /> Fee to Collect Contaminated Targeted Recyclable Materials or Organic Materials Container – 25%
<br />of the base monthly rate for the size of the container collected once per week plus $16.79 (per
<br />collection event).
<br /> Key Service - $9.51 per collection event, Lock Purchase $19.02 (one time per account).
<br /> Overage Fee – 100% of the base monthly rate per collection event
<br /> Overage Bag Cost - 50% of the base monthly rate or a minimum of $8.95 (whichever is greater) –
<br />per bag.
<br /> Container Cleaning - $55.97 per cart, $95.14 per Bin or Drop Box.
<br /> Dirty Cart Replacement - $72.75 per 32 gallon cart, $83.95 per 64 gallon cart, $95.14 per 96 gallon
<br />cart.
<br /> On-Call Bulky Item Collection - $91.28 for each collection after the first two per year.

<br /> Distance Charges for containers located 50 to 100 feet or less from access point for contractor’s
<br />collection vehicle – 10% of the monthly base rate.
<br /> Distance Charges for containers located 101 feet or more from access point for contractor’s
<br />collection vehicle – 25% of the monthly base rate.
<br /> Extra Pick-up fee – 25% of the base monthly rate for the size of container collected once per week
<br />– per collection event.

<br />PUBLIC HEARING ON RECOMMENDED RATES
<br />At the January 8, 2018 public hearing, the City Council will consider oral and written testimony, as well
<br />as written protests by property owners and customers of record against the proposed solid waste
<br />service rate increases. Following the hearing, the City Council may adopt a resolution that adopts the
<br />proposed rates. If, prior to the close of the public input portion of the public hearing, written protests
<br />are presented by a majority of customers of record or owners of a majority of parcels that receive solid
<br />waste services, the City Council will not increase the rates from their existing level.
<br />
<br />If you would like additional information on the proposed rates, please visit Public Works at 1400 Broadway
<br />or call 650-780-7464. Any person interested, including all solid waste and recycling collection customers
<br />of the City of Redwood City may appear at the public hearing and be heard on any matter related to the
<br />proposed increase in rates.
<br />
<br />If you wish to file a written protest, please send a letter in a sealed envelope addressed to Solid Waste
<br />Rates, City Clerk, City of Redwood City, 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA 94063. Your written
<br />protest must include: (i) A statement that it is a protest against the proposed change in rates which is the
<br />subject of the hearing. (ii) Name of the record owner or customer of record; (iii) Identity of the affected
<br />parcel by assessor’s parcel number or service address; (iv) Original signature of the record owner or
<br />customer of record with respect to the identified parcel. Protests will not be counted if any of the required
<br />elements (i through iv) are omitted. The City Clerk must receive your protest at City Hall by 5:00 p.m. on
<br />Monday, January 8, 2018. Protests can also be submitted at the City Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. Monday,
<br />January 8, 2018 until the close of the public input portion of the public hearing on the matter.
