Why are solid waste rates increasing? <br />•Proposed regular solid waste rate increase would be Redwood City’s first in four <br />years (last increase was in 2013) <br /> <br />•Ensure solid waste rates are sufficient to cover costs associated with collection, <br />segregation and disposal. <br />•Recology provides collection services <br />•Waste is segregated and transported at Shoreway Transfer Facility by <br />SBWMA <br />•We have contracts with agencies to dispose off solid waste, compost and <br />recyclables <br /> <br />•Regular solid waste rates – proposed increase of 3.34%, <br />o based on the one year change in Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the San <br />Francisco-Oakland-San Jose area <br />o Includes requested Recology compensation request of 2.3% <br /> <br />•Unscheduled solid waste services – proposed increase of 1.72% <br />•based on the one year change in CPI for the U.S. city average <br /> <br /> <br />
