Redwood City Poiice
Department System Description
i
The RNC can handle up to eight sites initially, and two sites have
been included in the proposal to the cities.
Network Management ,
The RNC provides numerous alarms and statistics on ttie
performance of the Mobile Data Systezn. The alaims contain any
infoimation on the abnoanal conditions of the hardware and
softwaze of the RNC itself as well as the following system
components:
• Host Interface
• Radio Backbone Stations
• RF Channels
• Mobile Data Devices
This i.nfoimation can be obtained via a dedicated local or remote
console or by console emulation over Ethemet
. As proposed in this system design, the RNC is a stand-alone unit.
l, The capability to provide redundant RadioTletwork Controllers in
a standby configuration can, however,be included in this Motorola
system following design and pricing review.
Detailed specifications for the RNC are located in the R3
specification sheets.
RADIO NETWORK CONTROLLER TO BACKBONE STTE LINK
As mentioned, the RNC uses a HDLC link to each base site and
can initially support up to 8 base site links and is expandable to a
maximum of 64. This design provides V.3229 modems for each
end of the connections between the RNC and the backbone site.
The method of physical connection for this Iink may be either 3002
Grade voice telephone lines or similar quality microwave circuits.
The choice and procurement of either of these two options is the
responsibility of Redwood City,Foster City, and Hillsborough.
BACKBONE STTE EQUIPMENT
This proposal includes a site at the Cross to provide coverage for
the Redwood City Police, and a site at the water tower on
t.
