Redwood City Police
Department System Description

' DATA BASE STATION(DBS)
While the RNC is the core of the mobile data system, the engines
are the Data Base Stations (DBS}. The specially desigaed data
stations receive, process, and transmit data to and from field and
dispatch locations. Based on the Motorola QUANTAR base
station family, the Data Base Station(DBS)is housed entirely in a
singie five rack unit card cage. All components comprising the
DBS are modular"plug-in" style cards that share a common
backplane specially designed for muting RF signals both internal
and external to the station. DBS components include the Receiver
module, Control module, Power Supply, Power Amplifier module,
and Exciter module. A fleadble bus strueture is used between
control and processing modules in the station. The QUANTAR
bus structure technology gives the DBS flexibility to allow future
system enhancemeats through mere module upgrades.
The DBS includes a DC powered, RF shielded,UDS V.3229 . The
DBS is suited for use at base sites thax are not climate controlled.
The DBS has monitoring capabilities that a11ow it to detect fault
conditions in the base station hardware and report the faults to the _
RNC. Additionally, the DBS collects statistics and alazm messages
and records them for access by system personnel. Loop back tests
aze available for testing the link between the RNC and the DBS
and for isolating link faults. Additionally, the DBS can be
configured to collect and forward external base site alarms to the
RNC.
BACKBONE STTE TO MOBILE DATA DEVICE LINK -
This Mobile Data System will operate using Motorola's Radio Data.
Link Access Protocol (RDLAP) 19.2 RF protocol for the 806 MHz
frequency. At a speed of 19,200 bps over the air, this scheme is the
fastest available today. Additivnal information regarding this
protocol is located in the Functional System Performance section
of this proposal.
1VlOBILE WORKSTATION 520 - (MW520)
Motorola offers the Mobile Workstation 520(MW520) to meet the varied
needs for a fixed mobile wireless workstation. The MW 520 is composed
of three main components. They aze the advanced Processor/RF unit, the
Display unit and the ergonomic keyboard. This design is ideal for modern
QMOrofroi.a . 2 - 6
. _ _ _ . _ _ __ e__ _. __
