Redwood City Police
Department System Description
i, ;
Message Delivery Inbound Messages
On power up of the VRM650,the data channel is accessed and the
registers itself on the system. After receiving authorization from
the fixed end controller(e.g.,RNC 3000)the VRM650 is ready to
send user messages. Each time the DTE sesds a message to the
VRM650 for transmission to the host, the process of data delivery
on the system will start. The data transmission will be repeated as
necessary until the system either aclmowledges (Acks)the message
or the VRM expends the predefined maximum number of retries.
If there is no response fom the local site (base station and
controller), the message will be retransmitted four times
(prograznmable) every 3 seconds (programmable). If the VRM
does not receive any response from the local site, it will notify the
DTE accordingly by sending a"Host Fail"message. If the VRM is
set to operate in its Transparent Mode(AT commands), the VRM
will enter the local mode after all retries have been exhausted. If
Native Mode is selected, the decision on how to proceed after a
Host Fail message is received will rest with the DTE (application).
If more than one message has been sent from the DTE to the VRM
, 650,these messages will be stored in the_V_RM and transmitted
when the channel becomes available. This process will continue
until the DTE requests the VRM to move to the local mode and
stop data transmission 'Iliere will be multiple Acks or negative
Acks (NAcks) sent to the DTE. The Native Mode must be used for
this inbound message store and forwazd feature.
In any case, all messages are backed up until delivered to the host.
After a power cut off state, when the VRM is turned on again it
will start transmission at the top of the buffer(assuming power has
been off for less than 72 hours). It will transmit all messages that
have not yet been Acked.
The inbound message storage buffer is 16K bytes. If the buffer
becomes full,no new messages will be accepted from the DTE
until the previously received messages are transmitted. The DTE
can clear the entire inbound message queue by using the proper
command.
Message Handling Outbound Messages
All messages received from the hast will be stored until delivered
,
to the DTE. The number of inessages that can be stored depends
MOTOROLA . 2 - 1
. _ _ _ _. . _ .
