RESOLUTION NO. 2018 - 009 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN CARLOS <br />ENDORSING THE EFFORT OF THE CITIZENS' CLIMATE LOBBY <br />TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS. <br />WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the importance of protecting the environment <br />and reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2009, the City Council adopted a Climate Action Plan, which set <br />greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets by implementing a number of measures within the <br />City; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of California continues to challenge local agencies to do more to <br />reduce greenhouse gas emissions by setting higher and higher reduction targets; and <br />WHEREAS, the Citizens' Climate Lobby is reaching out to local agencies to urge them <br />to support its efforts to establish a national, revenue -neutral tax on carbon based fossil fuels; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, supporting the Citizens' Climate Lobby's efforts are in furtherance of the <br />City's Climate Action Plan measures; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the need to reduce carbon emissions. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of San Carlos <br />hereby endorses the effort of the Citizens' Climate Lobby to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, <br />and encourages members of Congress to consider fully the Lobby's Carbon Fee and Dividend <br />concept as one way to reduce the risks of climate change. <br />I, Crystal Mui, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly passed <br />and adopted by the City Council of the City of San Carlos at a scheduled meeting thereof held <br />on the 81' day of January, 2018 by the following vote: <br />AYES, COUNCILMEMBERS: COLLINS, JOHNSON, OLBERT, GRASSILLI <br />NOES, COUNCILMEMBERS: GROCOTT <br />ABSENT, COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE <br />CTY CLIkk of the City Carlos <br />APPROVED: <br />MAYOR of the AC*yo an Carlos <br />
