Christensen reported that the city council's <br />committee on the recreation center site purchase proposal had met, <br />and 'that negotiations for the purchase had been st"art'ed. . <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />Mr. Charles Holt"" said the property was in danger of bei'ng sold <br />to a pr"i vate party, and urged haste in completing the -trans.action. <br />City Manager Dimmitt said he would. ask~. Daniel Stafford,- 'real es- <br />tate agent, to contact the O'Dea Estate attorneys immediately to ask <br />them to hold the' property pending further negotiations. t, Tlter-e was <br />considerable di'scussion-. "- " <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Mr. Morton revealed that work had not started on improving the <br />corner at Broadway Extension and Chestnut St. as a temporary softball <br />field because the Lions Club had not deposited the necessary funds as <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />arranged. The matter was tabled until the next meeting, also pend- <br />ing completion of ~the "O~Dea matter. <br /> <br />A report by Mr. Morton revealed .,that the drinking fountain and <br />lights had been installed at Fleishman Park, but that the proposed <br />comfort station had been held up for lack of funds. Additional blea- <br />chers were being built at Hawes Park, he said. - <br /> <br />Mr. Walsh reported that a tremendous improvement in the character of <br />work by WPA department employees had been apparent in the last two <br />- weeks, under- Mr. Morton' s direction. Mr. Morton said that Lee ',Ald- <br />erman was back on the job here, and that~ Mr.- De Armond had been ~ <br />transferred to another office. <br /> <br />Mr. Dimmitt said the WPA directors were very cooperative in his <br />meeting with them, and were very anxious to change the situation here <br />to meet the city's needs. He said that Mr. Arthur Ryan, county. sup- <br />erintende"nt, 'still was endeavouring to secure a life-guard f'or ~ the <br />harbor during the remainder of the summer, but that he was not sure <br />when the state office might send him '-sanction for more employees. <br /> <br /> <br />, "-, <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br /> <br />Mr. Morton reported'- that arrangements for the women I'S tennis' <br />tournament were progressing favorable."'
