~

insurance policies could ~e extended to cover such areas. Some
discussion centered about schoo11iabi1ity in case or such acci-
dents. City Manager Dimmitt said he wo~ld take up the matter
with the city's insurance company. The project is to be organ-
ized for completion 'iri 1941, the commission decided. '

CO~TTEE REPORTS:

\-/

Commissioner Vand8rborden and Mr. Morton reported on the poss-
ibility of constructing a municipal, outdoor dance floor similar
to that in Larkspur, for use during summers. The city manager
suggested the idea was not too attractive as a municipal propos-
ition, but might be a good project for a service club or some
other such volunteer group. The committee was asked to continue
working on ways and means of establishing such a project, as well
as other money-raising schemes. -

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Mr. Morton reported he has started his juvènile delinquency
chart of the city. It will take a year to secure an adequate pic-
ture of the situation, he said.

NEW BUSINESS: ^

The city manager reported the transfer of the yacht harbor
to the jurisdiction of the recreation commission was nearly com-
plete. He reported that a lifeguard, Mr. Kenneth Sheets, had been
appointed at a wage of 50 cents an hour for the remainder of the

,

summer, or until a Work Projects Administration employe can be
obtained. Payment of the lifeguard must be met by the yacht har-
bor fund, estimated at $1650 for 1940-41, he said. It was made
clear that payment of the guard is not contemplated as an obli-
gation of the recreation budget.

Considerable discussion on the matter of improvements was
held. Mr. Frank McAuliffe of Redwood City presented a diagram
of possible expansion of the swimming facilities, and suggested
such improvements as removal of barnacles from the float, cur-
tailment of fishing off the float, etc.

MSC that such improvements as are financially feasible at
the present time be instmtued immediately by the city manager.

oJ

MSC that a p~an for the committee design for the 1941 July
fourth Celebration be approved. The secretary was directed to
write Chairman o. S. Oleson commending him for his work this year.

. ~e city manager :~orted ~e ad~tion of the city budget
ma1nta1ned ~e recreabon budget virtually as it was for 1939-40.

., .

, , , . .

- . ,
