',' .

.,1

1

MSC Poole and Robb. That the Recreation Commission recommends to the
Swimming fool Committee of the City Council to approve the purchase
of swimming suit uniforms for life guards. (These suite will
distinguish life guards frœ swimers for safety reasons.) The
~o~t to be spent for the ~1foms is not to exceed $100.00.

Mr. Jim Whitehead a resident in the Stafford Park area complained
to the Park and Recreation Commission that the activity that has been
going on in the Stafford Park grounds is most disturbing to the
residents of the neighborhood. This complaint is that the pegtnning
. idea of the Park was to have a children's Library, small children's
play area, no picnicing and supervision to take care of any problems.
He also brought out the idea that Lincoln and McKinley school grounds,
had supervision and that there were never any children at these two
areas. He wondered wh.y all teen-age children weren't sent to these
two areas or sent off the Park. Mr. Morton told Mr. Whitehead that
there was sœeone in charge of the Park ~tll 5:00 p.m. md that he
would get someone to come to the park until dark. Most of the
disturbance seems to come after the recreation leader goes home. If
someone were to come until dark to supervise the playground, then the
residents, of the area would have to cooperate and call the police if
there is any disturbance on the Park after dark.

MSC By Poole, and Robb. The Park and Recreation Commission recoœmedds
to the City Council that there be no picnicing at any time at Stafford
Park and the Park be signed also. The City Council is to instruct
the Police Department to remove picnicers on complaint.

MSC By Boòle md Robb. Mr. Morton and Mr. Balzarini get together with
Chief Douglas and work out some plan to correct the problems at
Stafford Park.

Mr. Whitehead was invited by the Park and Recreation Commission
to come to the next meeting to make a report on the Stafford Park area.

Mr. Poole brought up the discussion of the Peninsula Celebration
Association having their festival the same time as the state Softball
Tournament. It was suggested that a discussion of cooperation between
the Peninsula Celebration Association and the Park and Recreation
Department be on the agenda for the next meeting.

No further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:49.

,

Respectfully submitted

jack Poole,. Secretary
