<br />227 <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. .EdDugan representing the Folk Dance group from the <br />Friendly Acres area made a request for assistance in folk dancing <br />in this area. This entire matter rests with whether or not the <br />multi-purpose building is build at Taft School. <br /> <br />Mr. Jim Beggs spoke in regard to the Teen-Age progr~ pro- <br />vided by the Recreation Department. Alfred Morton explained that <br />"at the present time most of the activity is of a physical nature <br />.and all Redwood City Teen-Age youngsters are invited to participate. <br />He also stated that some of the activities have been curbed at the <br />Recreation Center due to the use of two rooms for class rooms by <br />the Elementary Schools. Mr. Morton also stated that as far as <br />dancing was concerned at the Recreation Center, there will be none <br />unless proper supervision can be offered by adults. Mr. Beggs was <br />accompained by two students, Meb Buchananan and Greg Caruso. <br />Commissioner Stout asked what we as a Commission could do about <br />this situation and said that the Commission will not fail to do <br />whatever it can to help the Teen-Agers. Student Meb Buchanan stated <br />that the main interest of the students at the High School was to <br />have the Recreation Building on the Canpus completed and wanted to <br />know if the City of Redwood City could expend funds to complete <br />the development of said building. The Commission was advised that <br />the city could not cooperate in a matter of this kind. MSC by <br />Commissioners Stout and Gold that the Commission shoudl aid the <br />students in procuring the building program. <br /> <br />Chairman William Hanley appointed a committee of Commissioners <br />Stout, Chairman, Eloise Campbell, and Irving Gold to meet with the <br />Board of Trustees of the Sequoia High School to discuss this <br />problem. <br /> <br />Student Meb Buchanan stated that a meeting of the student <br />groups will be held at 10:'00 A.M. on the 3rd Tuesday of the month <br />and this plan could be presented at that time. <br /> <br />Commissioner Bogie, Chairman of the Budget Committee presented <br />the Recreation Department Budget for the 1952-53 Fiscal Year and <br />stated that he and Commissioner Gold had given the budget a con- <br />siderable amount of.study. An additional item of the Westwood <br />Terrace Playground equipment was recommended to be added to the <br />Recreation Budget. <br /> <br />MSC by Commissioners Stout and Bogie that the Recreation <br />Budget by approved as presented by Commissioner Bogie. <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioner Bogie requested the Park Department budget for <br />the 1952-53 fiscal year but Park Superintendent Balz'arini stated <br />that he was not in a position to present it at this time as he had <br />just received his budget sheets a few days before. MSC by Com- <br />missioners Stout and Bogie that the Park Department Budget be held <br />over until the next regular meeting. <br /> <br />j <br />~ <br />1 <br />~ <br /> <br />Commissioner Eloise Campbell reported on the fees and charges <br />at the Sequoia High School. She stated that she and Alfred Morton <br />met with Superintendent Clyde Ogden and discussed the entire sit- <br />uation and Dr. Ogden requested us to submit a list of the facilities <br />now being used by the High School through the Recreation Dept. <br />~s.
