13 ~~INUTES OF THE REGU'LAR MEETING OF THE R~DV~.OOD CITY, PARK ~~D RECREATI ON COMI\~I SSI ON OF AUGUST .5, 1953 MEETING CALlliD TO ORDER at 7:45 P. M. by Chai~an Stout. Those present v/ere Commissioners Catherine Brennan, Elouise Campbell, I.rvj,ng Gold, Fred Hector; superintendent of parks Pasco Balzarini and Superin- tendent of Recreation Alfreå Morton. Commissioner Ralph Case was noted absent. COMMUNICATIOrl FRO~~ THE CIT~{ COUNCIL reaò~ citing Assistant District Attorney Lebsack's opinion regarding the legality of building a Boy Scout club house on Community Park land. Mr. Lebsack's opinion W~s that a non-exclusive lease was possible. Motion, seconded, and c8.rried by Commissioners Gold and Hector that the Commission go on record as being against assigning any portion of Community Park to the use of any single organization. On this subject Commissioner Hector informed the CoT~ission that arrangements had been made for a meet~ng of represen- tatives of the group favoring the park and those against same with representatives of the Cocrmission. Said meeting was to be held at 7:30 P. M. Wednesday, August 12. COM~¡iISSIOílER CM!PBELL reported on meeting with Mr. Schutz of the .Redwood City Tribune on the subject of publicity. Meetings of the Commission are now being added to the City Calendar of Events in the paper. \VESTVVOOD AND BRIARFIELD PARK DEVELOPM.ENT. Commissioner Gold reported the rough and finish grading completed. Superintendent of Parks Balzarini repor~ed progress on bank stabilization and preparation of site for play equipment. Superintendent of Recreation Morton reported that procurement of play equipment would follow promptly. Discussion on dedication followed. Saturday, August 22, was tentatively agreed upon. Motion, seconded, and carried by Commissioners Campbell and Brennan that the Secretary write a letter to the Council reproposed dedication with their concurrence, the Secretary to obtain the concurrence of the Westwood Terrace Improvement Club previous to forwarding the letter to the Council. LITTLE BASEBALL LEAGUE. Chairman Stout inquired of the Commission and Superintendent of Recreation Morton their reaction to a "Little Baseball Lea~en similar to leagues all over the nation. ~Tr. Th1orton stated that u~ual league teams of thi s type had a backer. Too few children nre involved for the money expended to justif~ City funds he stated. Mr. Morton further cited the existing 'Junior League It and "Senior League" hardball games which are serving a larger group. TEEN-AGE A,CTIVITIES.
