<br /> <br />I <br />, . <br />f <br />, - <br />I <br />~ <br /> <br /> <br />., <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br />29 <br /> <br />MSC by Commissioners William Hanley and Elouis Campbell that a letter <br />be sent to 'the City Council requesting information relative to the status <br />of the heating system for the Co~~unity Park Swimming Pool. <br /> <br />Mr. Len Tornell of the Westwood Terrace Improvement Club informed the <br />ComL11issi on that the l~e st\vood Terrace Improvement Club dona ted $250,.00 <br />for playground equipment to be installed at the Westwood Playground. <br />Chairman Gold thanked T\1r. Tornall and members of the Club for their <br />keen interest in community work. <br /> <br />Members of the various P T A 's were present at the meeting and they <br />were somewhat crltical over the present Teen-Age program. Mrs. Roy Cloud <br />stated that AS far as the present playground progr~~ and physical acti,ritief <br />being carried out they were fine. She stated that there WRS a need for <br />additional activities for the teen age boys and girls of high school age. <br />This sta.tement wa.s granted by Commissioner Gold, but the problem of <br />keeping a Supervisor of Girls activities on the job has more or less <br />curtailed furthering the teen age program. He stated that e~ch year the <br />supervisors of both the boys and girls activities have been employed by <br />the Elementary Schools. He explained that the salary range was much <br />greater. Mrs. Cloud stated then we should do something about getting a <br />better pay scale for the assistants. Recreation Director Alfred Morton is <br />to arrange for a meeting with the P T A groups to see if something feasible <br />can be done towards developing this teen age program on a higher level. <br /> <br />Considerable discussion was made relative to the Maddux Playground by <br />Commissioner William Hanley. He stated that a request was made for <br />$3600.00 in the 1953-54 fiscal year budget and that the City Council set <br />aside $2600.00 in the un-budgeted reserve for this area. He requested that <br />this matter be put on the agenda for next meet5.ng. <br /> <br />Chairman Irving Gold requested that the matter of Stulsaf Park be put <br />on the agenda for the next meeting. <br /> <br />Chairman Irving Gold B.ppointed a cornmi ttee of Commissioner William <br />Hanley and Catherine Brennan to meet with Recreetion Director Alfred <br />Morton to study the miniature train agreement at Community Park now being <br />operated by A. C. Layton. <br /> <br />Park Supt. Pasco Balzarini reported that the turfing at Community Park <br />as set up in the 1953-54 bud~et has been completed. He stated that he <br />is now starting work on the Goodwin School area. <br /> <br />Mrs. LaVerne McClure gave a lengthly report on the need of the <br />Comun.lni ty Par}! to be heated. She elaborated on the program being carried <br />out by the San Matio City School Department. She felt that since she <br />was an suthority on swimming pools that her recommendations should be <br />right. <br /> <br />There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m. <br /> <br />Elouise Campbell, Secretary <br /> <br />
