<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />Commissioner Irving Gold reported on the status of the Union Cemetery. <br />He stated that the City Council appropriated sufficient funds to have <br />an investigation made of the property and the finding should be forth- <br />coYr,ing \vi thin four to six ~Nee1{8. Commissioner Gold felt that this was <br />a step in the right direction and that for once and for all the status <br />of this property would be determined. <br /> <br />Chairman H. S. Stout appointed co~~ittees to work with the Park Supt., <br />and the Recreation Director for the coming year. <br />He ap~ointod Commissioners William Hanley And Vincent Rambo to work on <br />the Park Co~~ittee. Irving Gold and Ralph Case to work on the Recreation <br />Committee. <br />Another commi ttee appòinted was lVlrs. Catharl,ne Brennan and Elouise Campbe <br />to the ~ctivitieR committee. The purpose of this coMmittee was to <br />see if the crAft program could be reactivated and if a competent instruct <br />could be hired to get the projects underway again- <br />Recrea.tion Director Alfred. lVIorton stated that the craf't 'program was going <br />f1.111 sv:ing unti 1 the end of 1953 when Elizabeth Penn went to work for the <br />Redwood City Elementary School District therefor forcing curtailment of t: <br />craft prograrr..- t10rton stated that as soon as a nevy Supervisor of Glrls <br />and Womens activities is hired that the program will be reactivated. <br /> <br />Park Supt Balzarini reported that the fencing at Mezes a~d Westwood Park <br />had been completed. <br />Five acres of sprinkling system had been installed at Goodwin School site <br />Swin~s and fountian had been installed at Westwood Park. <br />'. -' <br /> <br />New lawns adjacent to the Armory and in the rear of the Swimming Pool <br />would be ready for use during'the month of March. <br />He also brought 11P the point of who o\n¡ns the Easter Bowl. He stated th.s.t <br />each year his department does the work up in that area and that it is not <br />owned by the city, but by the Water Department. <br />MSC by Commissioners Gold and Brennan that a letter be sent to the City <br />Council to ascertain the status of the Emerald Lake Bowl ownership. <br /> <br />Park Sutp Balzarini also reported that the cost of maintei~ing Hawes PRrk <br />is $ 1,461.82 per year which soes for fertilizer, watering, cutting, up- <br />keep of lavatorieR, etc. <br /> <br />Alfred~llorton reported that the City Council approved tl1e Swimming Pool <br />heater to be put 011t on bid.
