Chapter 1 x Executive Summary <br />1-20 <br />Figure 1-5: Timeline of Phased Improvements in the Dumbarton Corridor <br />Source: CDM Smith 2017 <br />Short-term improvements that could be implemented by 2020 include a handful of enhanced bus <br />service and corresponding Highway Bridge approach improvements. These improvements <br />include the following: <br />ƒ Adding two new transbay bus routes from Union City BART to Menlo Park/Redwood City <br />and Mountain View/Sunnyvale while increasing the frequency of Route DB and Route DB1 <br />bus service to every 15 minutes and extending the peak period of service to 4 hours in the <br />morning, and 4 hours in the evening <br />ƒ Adding transit signal priority and queue jump lanes to Decoto Road from I 880 east to <br />Union City BART or where possible given ROW constraints <br />ƒ Constructing an HOV bypass lane on the westbound approach to the Highway Bridge at <br />Newark Boulevard <br />ƒ Highway Bridge toll booth removal at the FasTrak lanes and a FasTrak extension to Paseo <br />Padre Parkway <br />ƒ Adding transit signal priority and queue jump lanes to Bayfront Expressway and Willow <br />Road where possible <br />ƒ Implementing bus-only lanes on Bayfront Expressway <br />If pursued aggressively in the short-term, mid-term projects targeted for the 2025 timeframe <br />could include the following: <br />ƒ Implementing one express lane in each direction on the Highway Bridge with supporting <br />arterial express lanes and other improvements: <br />x Implementing eastbound express lanes from the Highway Bridge toll plaza to <br />I 880/Decoto Road <br />x Converting the FasTrak lane to an express lane <br />x Constructing flyover connections between the I 880 and SR 84 express lanes <br />6.1.D. - Page 29
