RECREATION <br />'COMMISSION <br />April, - 1961 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Pa rk and Recreation Commission was called <br />to order by ChaiM~ W~lace H~der ~ 8:15 p.m. in the Conference Room <br />of the Veterans Memorial B~ilding. <br /> <br />Following Commissioners were present: Chairman Harder, James Knecht, <br />,Maurice Schutz and Jæmes Slobodian. Staff members present were, Red <br />Morton, Wm. Shewry, entering late was Pasco Balzarini. Noted absent <br />were; Alyn Beals, Louise Tornell, Catherine Brenna. <br /> <br />M S C Knecht and Slobodian that the minutes of March 1 meeting be <br />approved as printed. <br /> <br />Bill Ginghers of Ginghers Mustangs Softball Club of Redwood City was <br />present and requested that the Commission allow his club to sell tick- <br />ets to~defray expenses for meals and lodging for a ,team coming here <br />from Reno, Nevada on April 15. This will be a h~e and ho~ g~es, <br />each team will be responsible for their expenses. Red Morton Stated. <br />that no admission is charged at Hawes Park except in the case of reg- <br />ional and state tournæments including men's and women teams. Bound- <br />ary was set thus; Los Angeles, South of San Luis Obisto~ Las Vegas, <br />east of state line and north of Redding be allowed to charge admiss- <br />ion. M S C Knecht and Schutz that commission send a letter to city <br />council reco~ending a ch~ge not to exceed 50ø a~ssion. <br /> <br />Joe Walker, Frank Falk and Bill Pawson, representing Highlands Li tt:Je <br />League were present, requesting improving of fields at Goodwin school <br />or making it possible so they could do it themselves. They also re- <br />quested stands at the two fields for spectators. The south field is <br />in bad shape and needs repairs. Red and Pasco said they would coop- <br />erate and see what can be done. <br /> <br />Letter from Pacifica Park and Recreation Commission was read, asking <br />Commission if we would be interested in forming a San Mateo County <br />Council of Park and Recreation Commissioners. A recommendation was <br />made that this co~ssion is in favor of such organization and that a <br />letter be sent to them, and copy to Ralph Shaw, Director S. M. Co. <br />Recreation Dept. requesting that.he coordinate on this proposal. <br /> <br />M S C Knecht and Schutz that 2nd & Bay property be held over and be <br />discussed at a joint meeting with city council. <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />Wally Harder reported on Yacht Harbor. Sequoia Yacht Club site was <br />set at the north east corner overlooking the harbor. Recommendation <br />was made that the club put some kind of a building extending out into <br />the harbor. Coast Guard Reserves also request for a location at the <br />Harbor. <br /> <br />Maurice Schutz asked if anything is being done about the poison oak <br />at Stulsaft Park, Pasco stated that they already had sprayed it and <br />will give it a second .spray in the near future. <br /> <br />Red Morton made the report for Louise Tornell in regard to Fun After <br />',0 Club.
