Slobodian, Secretary <br /> <br /> <br />REDWO.OD CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />Minutes of January 2, 1903 Meeting <br /> <br />~ Regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order <br />by ~a1man Al~ Beals at 8 p.m. in the conference room of the Veter~rs <br />Memorial Building. . <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />Following 'Connnissioners were present: Chairman Alyn Beals, Jim Knecht, <br />Louise Tornell and Jim Slobodian. Commissioners absent were: Maurice <br />Schutz, Catherine Brennan and Stan Sugarman. Staff members present were <br />Red Morton and ~asco Balzarini. . <br /> <br />Minutes of December meeting were approved with the following change; <br />that the third paragraph should read "Minutes of November 7,1962 meeting <br />~ were approved as amended and delete the last sentence of the last paragraph. <br /> <br />'" <br /> <br />PERSONAL APPEARANCE: <br /> <br />" ... <br /> <br />Tony DiCarlo and Norval Denny representing Friendly Acres Improvement <br />Club and Cecil Hall representing the Communlty Service Organization. <br /> <br />Both groups had presented letters regarding the recreation facilities in <br />this area. Recommendations were made to the Commission as to where and <br />what kind of facilities should go into this area, whether it should be at <br />Taft School or Hoover School. Red Morton presented a map indicating the <br />population of school children in the Taft area. Red was asked if it was <br />possible to present a map indicating the ~pçpulation of children in the <br />Taft and Hoover area also of high school stuqents in the Menlo-Atherton <br />area who live in the Friendly Acres area. Chairman Beals closed the dis- <br />cussion indicating that more study is needed and asked the Improvement <br />Club and Service O~ganization to feel free to attend the Commission meet- <br />ings SO that they would be better informed of what is ta~ing place re- <br />garding the recreational facilities in the Friendly Acres~area. Future <br />discussions will be needed with groups of this area before final rec- <br />ommendations are made. <br /> <br />Pasco Balzarini informed the Commission that the Dove Beeger Park will <br />be completed in about two weekslf the weather holds out. He also ment- . . <br />toned that formal dedication of the park will take place s~etime in May~ <br />and that the Redwood City Woman's Club will be in'charge of the dedicatim.. <br /> <br /> <br />- <br /> <br /> <br />The Park and Recreation Commission congratulated the Recreation Dept. for <br />the marvelous way in which they conducted the Ele~entary School basketball <br />tournament. <br /> <br />
