Mrs. 'R. McCUllough of the Hoover Pl.T.A. stated that she had contacted
all the principals from the area and they all preferred a swimming pool
, at Hoover School.

Councilman Royer stated that we need both of the facilities and if we
can get the swimming pool constructed, then we can start working on the
Recreation building for this area.

Questions were asked as to who would be eligible to use this pool. It
was brought out that during the school year if the school so desires to
use the' swimming pool for their physical education classes, then all
sch90l children would be eligible to use the facility. However, during
the summer vacation' local Redwood City residents would be given prefer-
ence as to swimming instruction and recreational swimming and that non-
residents would no doubt have to pay a higher rate for the use of the
facilities for recreational swimming and possibly not be allowed to
take the swimming instruction classes.

MSC by Commissioners Beals and Tornell that the Park and Recreation
Commission recommend to the City Council that steps be taken to provide
a swimming pool at Hoover School and that the committee present their
findings to the Redwood City Elementary School Board and report back
at the next commission meeting.

Since City Manager Neal was still in the audience,.the question was
raised by Chairman James Knecht regarding the'development of the 'Baird
Property for recreational and parle purposes. Chairman Knecht felt that
in order to obtain the proper development of this area professional
people should be brought into the picture. Otherwise we will continue
to be at a standstill. It was the feeling of the commission that an
architect be hired to draw plans for the proposed recreation b'uil'ding
and we will then have something to work towards.

MSC by Commissioners Stuart and Beals that a letter be sent to the City
Manager requesting that he consider the hiring of an architect to pro-
ceed with plans for a building on the Baird Property.

City Manager James Neal spoke regarding the covering of the creek at
Community Park. He stated that a Bond Issue is forthcoming next year
and if~t passes than a portion of the creek would be covered in order
to link certain properties together. This would be the area between
Valota Road and the bridge at St. Francis Street. It was -felt that the
other portion 9f the creek from St. Francis east to the Hetch Hetchy
Right of v~ay should be straightened and guni ted.

Some of the Commissioners had a,diff~rent opinion regarding the creek
project so it was requested that this matter be tabled until the Decem-
ber meeting when it could be viewed and studied in the field.

Commissioner James Knecht then called the December 2 meeting for 2:00
p.m. at ilie Veterans ~morial Building and he requested that the' Eng-

..

J . .

. ,

, -

, -
'- , : 0

',,- -
- ',' :f-:-;,"
