Mrs. Thompson commended Park Superintendent and Recreation Director Morton for the outstanding job done by them jointly in creating and installing the new children's playground in Community Park adjacent to the Recreation Center Building on Roosevelt Ave., commenting that the design of the area was especially inviting and the functional and sturdy yet imag- inative equipment was a credit to their ingenuity and an out- standing improvement to the Park and to the City. On behalf of the Commission, a letter was requested written to City Manager Neal commending the two department heads. COMMISSIONER STUART; Expressed concern over criticism during Council Study Meeting and regular Council Meeting concerning delay of work on Second. Avenue and Stulsaft Park playgrounds. PARK SUPERINTENDENT BALZARINI: Announced he had met with the City Engineer today concerning grading for the two playgrounds; that Stulsaft Park would be done next week and the Second Avenue area, the following week. It was suggested that ded- ication ceremonies be arranged for both playgrounds upon completion and that Mr. MOrton contact a resident of the Friendly Acres area and Mr. Balzarini contact Mrs. Dixon Arnett of the Farm Hills area and enlist their help for ded- ication ceremonies. Mr. Balzarini stated that as soon as the City Engineering department sets the parking area contours at the Marina that his department would plant the palm trees. RECREATION DIRECTOR MORTON: Suggested the evening of Dec. 1st as the date for a IIthank you" dinner for Mrs. Louise Tornel1 who had recently resigned from the Commission after having served for 11~ years. . On motion of Commissioner Gooding, seconded by Commissioner Whitmore, and passed, the December meeting of the Commission was set for 4:30 p.m. at the regular meeting place. Secre- tary Thompson was requested to notify the Tribune and City Manager of the time change. (written 11-9-65). CHAIRMAN BEALS: Thanked Mr. MOrton for presenting each commiss- ioner with new gold membership cards. Mr. Beals reported on meeting with Mr. Fenton Mee and Mr. Balzarini concerning the Commission recommendat~on of Sept. 1st "that any monies derived from sale of cinnabar ore be used to beautify and finish the park according to the plan approved in 196111.
