<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Mrs. Thompson commended Park Superintendent and Recreation <br />Director Morton for the outstanding job done by them jointly <br />in creating and installing the new children's playground in <br />Community Park adjacent to the Recreation Center Building on <br />Roosevelt Ave., commenting that the design of the area was <br />especially inviting and the functional and sturdy yet imag- <br />inative equipment was a credit to their ingenuity and an out- <br />standing improvement to the Park and to the City. On behalf <br />of the Commission, a letter was requested written to City <br />Manager Neal commending the two department heads. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER STUART; Expressed concern over criticism during <br />Council Study Meeting and regular Council Meeting concerning <br />delay of work on Second. Avenue and Stulsaft Park playgrounds. <br /> <br />PARK SUPERINTENDENT BALZARINI: Announced he had met with the City <br />Engineer today concerning grading for the two playgrounds; <br />that Stulsaft Park would be done next week and the Second <br />Avenue area, the following week. It was suggested that ded- <br />ication ceremonies be arranged for both playgrounds upon <br />completion and that Mr. MOrton contact a resident of the <br />Friendly Acres area and Mr. Balzarini contact Mrs. Dixon <br />Arnett of the Farm Hills area and enlist their help for ded- <br />ication ceremonies. <br /> <br />Mr. Balzarini stated that as soon as the City Engineering <br />department sets the parking area contours at the Marina that <br />his department would plant the palm trees. <br /> <br />RECREATION DIRECTOR MORTON: Suggested the evening of Dec. 1st as <br />the date for a IIthank you" dinner for Mrs. Louise Tornel1 who <br />had recently resigned from the Commission after having served <br />for 11~ years. . <br /> <br />On motion of Commissioner Gooding, seconded by Commissioner <br />Whitmore, and passed, the December meeting of the Commission <br />was set for 4:30 p.m. at the regular meeting place. Secre- <br />tary Thompson was requested to notify the Tribune and City <br />Manager of the time change. (written 11-9-65). <br /> <br />CHAIRMAN BEALS: Thanked Mr. MOrton for presenting each commiss- <br />ioner with new gold membership cards. <br /> <br />Mr. Beals reported on meeting with Mr. Fenton Mee and Mr. <br />Balzarini concerning the Commission recommendat~on of Sept. <br />1st "that any monies derived from sale of cinnabar ore be <br />used to beautify and finish the park according to the plan <br />approved in 196111.
