WHEREAS, senior citizens of all economic levels are increasingly anxious <br />about their ability both to receive and to pay for healthcare, and are faced to <br />choose between providing for basic needs and obtaining healthcare; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council acknowledges that effective legislative authority <br />to address the serious deficiencies in the nation's and State's healthcare system <br />is vested in the State legislature and United States Congress; and <br />WHEREAS, nevertheless, this Council, as a local governing body, is <br />acutely aware of the effect of the deficiencies in the nation's and State's <br />healthcare system as it affects senior citizens in the City of Redwood City; and <br />WHEREAS, equitable, economical, and effective healthcare legislation <br />must be enacted in order to respond to the crisis level deficiencies in the nation's <br />and State's healthcare system; <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY, AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. This Council hereby declares that the failure of the nation's healthcare <br />system to provide effective and economic healthcare services to senior citizens <br />in the City of Redwood City has reached crisis proportions, deprives senior <br />citizens of necessary life sustaining healthcare services, and requires immediate <br />enactment of State and federal legislation which will ensure the provision of <br />equitable, economical, and effective healthcare services. <br />Reso -1031 2 <br />DES:rg <br />R/S ha red /Redwood /Council <br />11106/00 <br />14089 <br />
