WHEREAS, senior citizens of all economic levels are increasingly anxious
about their ability both to receive and to pay for healthcare, and are faced to
choose between providing for basic needs and obtaining healthcare; and
WHEREAS, this Council acknowledges that effective legislative authority
to address the serious deficiencies in the nation's and State's healthcare system
is vested in the State legislature and United States Congress; and
WHEREAS, nevertheless, this Council, as a local governing body, is
acutely aware of the effect of the deficiencies in the nation's and State's
healthcare system as it affects senior citizens in the City of Redwood City; and
WHEREAS, equitable, economical, and effective healthcare legislation
must be enacted in order to respond to the crisis level deficiencies in the nation's
and State's healthcare system;
NOW, THEREFORE;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD
CITY, AS FOLLOWS:
1. This Council hereby declares that the failure of the nation's healthcare
system to provide effective and economic healthcare services to senior citizens
in the City of Redwood City has reached crisis proportions, deprives senior
citizens of necessary life sustaining healthcare services, and requires immediate
enactment of State and federal legislation which will ensure the provision of
equitable, economical, and effective healthcare services.
Reso -1031 2
DES:rg
R/S ha red /Redwood /Council
11106/00
14089
