:t.2A.5
CITY OF REDWOOD CITY BLOMQUIST STREET EXTENSION

Project Description

The proposed project consists of extending the present terminus of Blomquist Street at Maple Street,
across Redwood Creek, and connecting to the East-Bayshore Road-Bait Island Road intersection. The
project will also include a 550' long bridge spanning Redwood Creek. The total length of the project in
approximately 2,500 feet.

There are several purposes for this extension. First, the extension will provide a direct access between
the eastern and western portion of the Maple Street area. Secondly, the project will provide a second
access point to the Bait Island area for regular and emergency vehicles, allowing an alternate access
independent of Highway 101. The third and possibly the most important benefit is the project will provide
one of the missing links to the San Francisco Bay Trail by crossing Redwood Creek and providing a
continuous path from Bair Island road to Seaport Blvd.

Fu nding is provided by the City through the recently adopted ordinance requiring the payment of Traffic
Impact Fees by developers of commercial projects with in the City of Redwood City. Outside sources are
also being sought through TDA, STP, and other Federal or State Funds. The total costs of the project is
presently estimated at $7.2 million, including the right-of-way acquisition.

Consulting Engineers have been selected and are currently working on the bridge and roadway design.
Ctass I multi-use paths are being proposed, but right-of-way acquisition may be an issue if the current
width is not enough to support two direction traffic, through a 10' multi-use path and a concrete walkway.
The project has attracted much attention due to the gap it will bridge and the new access available to the
public for transportation and recreational uses.

THE BF.
