For the purpose of this provision, the immediate family shall be <br /> restricted to father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, child, half <br /> brother, half sister, stepbrother, stepsister, mother-in-law, <br /> father-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, and stepfather, stepmother, <br /> stepchild in those cases where direct child rearing-parental <br /> relationship may be demonstrated to have existed. <br /> In the event of the death of an active City employee, the City will <br /> excuse (without loss of pay) those employees who wish to attend the <br /> locally conducted funeral only to the extent it does not interfere with <br /> the operation of the City. <br /> Funeral leave applies only in instances in which the employee attends <br /> the funeral , or is required to make funeral arrangements, but is not <br /> applicable for other purposes, such as settling the estate of the <br /> deceased. <br /> Military Leave - The provisions of the Military and Veterans Code of <br /> the State of California shall govern the granting of military leaves of <br /> absence and the rights of employees returning from such leaves. <br /> Maternity Leave of Absence Without Pay - Maternity leave of absence <br /> without pay or benefits shall be granted upon request to non-disabled <br /> probationary and permanent female employees for that period of time <br /> requested up to one (1) year. <br /> Maternity leave shall be granted when the following conditions have <br /> been met: <br /> The employee shall notify her immediate supervisor in writing <br /> accompanied by her physician' s certificate of pregnancy as soon as <br /> possible after pregnancy has definitely been determined, but no later <br /> than ninety (90) days prior to the tentative date on which the leave is <br /> to begin. Such notice shall include the tentative dates on which the <br /> leave shall begin and end. <br /> Within thirty (30) days of the beginning of the maternity leave, the <br /> employee shall submit to the Personnel Officer the specific date she <br /> intends to begin the leave, accompanied by her physician's written <br /> statement attesting to the employee's ability to continue performing <br /> the full schedule of her duties and responsibilities. She shall <br /> continue on active duty until the specific date providing she performs <br /> the full duties and responsibilities of her position and furnishes <br /> additional health statements from her physician upon reasonable <br /> request. <br /> Prior to the establishment of a specific date for return to duty, the <br /> employee shall submit to the Personnel Officer a notice of intention to <br /> return to duty, accompanied by her physician' s statement certifying <br /> that the employee is medically qualified to assume regular duties and <br /> responsibilities. <br /> The Personnel Officer or his/her designee may designate the specific <br /> beginning and ending dates within the pay period requested by the <br /> 9 <br /> • <br />
