Steve read his prepared statement which embodied the request that there be two teenage commissioners appointed and that he felt teenagers were better qualified to know the recreation needs as they~are the ones that use them: that many other cities have adopted the teenager commissioner idea and that seemingly this commission was in favor of the proposal but not as to giving the teenage commissioner a vote, that teenagers are willing to accept responsibility in community matters sothey can attain better understanding of others. Steve later stated -that he could understand_the commission thinking concerning a vote but would hope that the teenager proposal-would be accepted and that at a later date the voting privilege would be granted. Chairman Knecht complimented the students for their appearance at the meeting and for their interesE in park and recreation matters and for their presentation. Commissioner Coffis, seconded by Commissioner Whitmore,moved that the Commission ask Steve Sebree and Debi Balzarini to corne up with a proposal as to how a teenage advisory commissioner can b~ se- lected and to report back at the June 4th meeting. Passed. commissioner Morgan was absent. Discussion on 'the above included that city charter would h-ave to be changed to allow an appointmént of additional commissioners to-~he board but that Commission can appoint any committee or committees it deems necessarY1 that Commissioners would enjoy the help and advice of the young people: that any resident could be eligible as an adviso~y teenage commissioner, that a one- year appointment does not allow enough time for a person to_be- come acquainted withall of the ramifications of a park and rec- reation commission some of which are complex when pertaining to future projects, finances, etc., secretary reading of the Comm.. ission recommendation made at the March 5th meeting. 3 - ~~ ~q~~~SIQ~R - Chairman Knecht presented briefcases and name plates to the newest commissioners - Jim Coffis and Larry Schenck. -- 4 - MONTHLY REPORTS - PARK DEPARTMENT ..
