<br /> <br /> <br />293 <br /> <br />in it; that the some twenty five miles or more of water orient- <br />ed walkways, view areas, parle areas, etc. which are planned for <br />the City in the Redwood Shores area would provide for the visual <br />water-designed aspect~ that there is great concern with regard <br />to maintenance, upkeep, and attendant problems which could re- <br />sult from a water-designed project in the park~ that there is <br />an urgency to provide for the present and the immediate future <br />for all segments and age brackets of the population - both active <br />and passive types of recr.eation - and the acquiring of approx. <br />5 acres at this time through covering of the creek is of the ut- <br />most importance; that the Jenks & Adamson Report whould be stud- <br />ied with regard to the creek situation: in that there will be, <br />reportedly, sufficient funds remaining in the storm drain bond <br />issue monies to permit covering the creek instead of gunniting <br />it and costs should be balanced against the acquiring of approx. <br />5 acres of usuable land: that the park has been in existence <br />for some 22 years and is still not providing anywhere near ad-. <br />equately for the needs in the community; that there is planned <br />expansion of the Police Youth Club Bldg. and recent discussion <br />concerning expansion of the Veterans' Memorial Bldg. - both <br />would reduce open and usuable space on that portion of the park. <br /> <br />In commending various other aspects of the plan design-mounding <br />and turfed areas; massing of perimeter parking areas (and cover- <br />ing of "improved" area near Vera-Dickey streets); inclusion of <br />Phase 3 of C.A.B.: provision for famii.y-type picnic areas; cir- <br />culation pattern-pathways-¡ landscaping designs and plantings¡ <br />planning for ultimate development to a full potential by ac- <br />quiring other abutting and adjacent properties¡--the Commission <br />suggested that the following be considered in the Master Plan: <br />Barbecue area which could accommodate approx. SOD-people; <br />No more baseball-fields; Lawn bowling: Soccer field; <br />Additional tennis courts; Handball Court; - Outdoor basket- <br />ball hoops: Enlarged mother-tot- areas; Bxpansion of Rose <br />Garden: Skating area which possibly could be converted to <br />a tot wading pool or sprinkle pool during hot weather; <br />Enlarging of the gymnasium facilities - to possibley <br />three times its size-in order to permit a teen center <br />building; . acquisition of and utilization of the Armory <br />building and 2 acre site-building to include possibly <br />three stories and provide for ice skating, teen dances, <br />basketball games, et~.: renovating restrooms in park and <br />providing. additional ones such as at the new barbeque site <br />west of C.A.B.¡ interim turf bank -to clean up park and as <br />needed used in other park areas. <br /> <br />Mr. Sue was asked to provide an alternate plan with respect <br />to a covered creek project, and the suggestions above and <br />to present plan at the Nov. 5th meeting. <br /> <br />........-. ..., . ......-..--.-.--...-.,...<......,..... ....._m"._'-.---T-.-.-.-.--'.-..-...-.'---...---.'-----_..__..._---__'___h.--'.......__._._-~_..........__.......'........-.....--.-.....--n.._... --....--,.,....-...............-.......---..,.-.........- ...n._u......_- <br /> <br />
