,8

of cost of creek covering was $150,000; that creek covering would
pick up approx. an additional 5 acres of usuab1e land so badly
needed in the park; that the open stream system would still
leave Community park in reality a two park area; that the "stream"
area is the only possible 1eve11arid ayai1ab1e in the city at the
present time and probably for some to come; that the lower cost
for the open stream system might be overshadowed by the high
cost of maintenance and of getting enough help to take care of .
it; that the Commission would like a "firmlf figure on covering-
i.e. exactly what size of culvert or pipe would be needed; and
Commission would like an estimate of costs (for the 3 plans) for
the development of the park as proposed.

Chairman Knecht highly complimented Mr. Sue on his plans and pre-
sentation and advised that Commission would study them between
now and the next meeting. He asked Mr. Sue to attend the Dec-
ember meeting.

3 - ~E~+§~lt9~~H~O~OJlTT_PÞ~~!!" He provided cost estimates for plan
nAil to a total of $16,296 which included: job administration-
2 weeks - $500; Site preparation; removal of existing wood head-
ers; irrigation system - $1,000; regrading existing turf areas;
concrete curb - $1,200; additional sand to 1211 depth - $880;
play equipment (Timberform & Gametime) - $10,000 ($7,000.for
equipment and $3,000 for installation); 1~~ contingency - $1,358
and 1C1þ contractor's overhead and profit - $1,358. Plan liB II
IIAdditiona1 Play Areall - totaled $16,800. Mr. Sue said he was
recommending this type installation and equipment as being the
best value for the money budgeted and creative type equipment
with good play value within the area and aesthetically approp-
riate: that Timberform units were pressure treated, close grain-
ed Douglas fir, and that company is a reputable one. He noted
that timbers are 6x6 or 8x8 heavy ones and structured compatible
to the area. He noted that telephone poles are creosoted only
on that portion which are in the ground.

Several Commissioners questioned use of wood forms as play equp-
ment and suggested pas-sible use of pipe and cement crea ti ve forms,

I

and possible more traditional equipment in a nautical theme.

Commissioner Thompson moved to recommend acceptance of plan nAil
as presented by Mr. Sue for play equipment for Neighborhood Park
#1, Redwood peninsula, seconded by Commissioner Stuart, and pass-
ed, 'Commissioners Whitmore and Schenck voting NO.

-j
,
".'

',\

"

..,
