The Board is
concerned about making a longer commitment because the County Library's fiscal
projections indicate the Library will have a deficit by FY 2002-03.

The County Library's Governing Board has been working diligently to bring back more
than $2M in property taxes the Library sends to Sacramento every year. Until this long-
term funding issue is addressed either locally or at the state level, the GovemingBoard
believes it must be conservative about making fiscal commitments.

San Mateo County Libnlrv operates uncler aJoint Powers Authority and serves the communities of Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane, East Palo Alto,
Fn"e1' (iI,' 1I:1!f '^'íO()1l B:I" \1illhr:I~, P:lrifir:1 pl)r10'~ V,d],'" ~"n r'l1'ln~ ~'ln('hp7 W""rJc¡'¡p .",,1 II", ",,;n"M""""',,'! .
