Thompson <br />Chairm~rr Thompson made assignments, and this has been distributed under -a separate - <br />piece of mail. ~ - - <br /> <br />18 - BUDGET RECOMMENDATIONS - progress report <br />No thing to report. <br /> <br />19 - ROUNDTABLE <br />Comritissioner Knecht asked about two stumps in property across the street on Valota <br />Road from the Knecht rose garden, and would the Park Department help move them to be <br />put in an area where they could be used in a park? CLlIQrlissioner Knecht had noticed <br />that the children loved to play on them. <br /> <br />Cornrnissioner Guida asked two things. One, if' there was a coke or coffee machine out <br />at the Marina by the harbor master area. Mr. Wooten of the Recreation Department <br />reported that it had been taken out last year because kept getting complaints fram <br />the health department. -- <br /> <br />Mr. Guida also asked, and was concerned, regarding the statuS of the Park and <br />Recreation. Cormnission and what authority they had. It was presented to him the <br />cQIDID.is s ion, rules. There was m1¡ch discussion on this item. The general feeling was <br />that the cotfOt\isBion could back up their- objectives set out in Section 25-3 of th~ <br />Redwood City Code: The general obj ective of the Redwood Ci ty Park and Recreation <br />Commission shall- be to encourage, foster, fàcilitate, establish, and maintain a <br />systèIr1.atic program of parks and p1a.ygrOlU1ds ~to be availab1~ to citizens - and visitors, <br />of Redwood City. A) To recormnend to the city council or manager the establishment <br />of parks, playgrounds deemed necessary and including p~ovisions for adequate per- <br />sonnel to supervise -such activities. B) To recormnend acquisition of such real <br />property to effect the desired objectives. Ma¥ have available the services of the <br />ci ty engineer and other ci ty heads. Under Sectio~ 25-15: All matters pertaining <br />to the parks, playgrounds, and recreational establishment coming before the city <br />council and manager shall be referred to the Park and Recreation Commission for <br />their consideration and from time to time such other persons as the commission <br />would use to help them in the determination of their objectives. <br /> <br />Commissioner ~nes requested some info.nuation regarding the scheduling fees of the, <br />various pools. He was answered by Mr. Morton that the city cOlU1cil had set the fees <br />.of 20rp, 30rp, and 40rp with free swimming on Wedne~da¥ afternoons as directed by the - <br />Redwood City Park and Recreation CaIlHlission in 1968. These were still in effect <br />and will be throughout the S1nnmer. <br /> <br />Mr. Haynes also asked relative to private 1esso~s and the we1fare- recipients in the <br />area. They didn't have the money and -cost was the main factor in their not getting <br />there. It was brought to his attention that service clubs has purchased and given <br />their money to the welfare department, and they were then giving those free tickets <br />to the people. The 1e_s sons are available from 9: 30 to 12: 30 and again from 4 to 5: 30. <br /> <br />Mr. Ha¥nes also asked relative - to the kids who want to use it at night.
