9� � <br /> REPO <br /> RT <br /> To the Honorable City Councit <br /> From the Mayor <br /> September 26, 2005 <br /> Subject <br /> Letter from the Mayor in Response to the San Mateo County Grand Jury June 27, 2005 <br /> Final Report, "Treatment of Property Owners in Redwood City Redevelopment Project" <br /> Recommendation <br /> Authorize the Mayor to release the City's letter of response to the San Mateo County <br /> Grand Jury June 27, 2005 Final Report, "Treatment of Property Owners in Redwood City <br /> Redevelopment Project" <br /> Background <br /> In 2003, Redwood City initiated eminent domain actions in order to acquire the land <br /> necessary for construction of an underground public parking garage. As you are aware, <br /> the public garage has been constructed and the retail-cinema project is now being built. <br /> The property owners of one parcel responded to the action and this matter was ultimately <br /> settled the following year. <br /> On or about June 27, 2005, the City Council received correspondence from the Acting <br /> Court Executive Officer for the San Mateo County Superior Court advising that the 2004- <br /> 2005 Grand Jury had filed its report, which contained findings and recommendations <br /> pertaining to the City. The City Council was further advised that it was required to respond <br /> to the that portion of the Grand Jury report regarding the fair and equitable treatment of <br /> property owners related to the acquisition of properties. <br /> Attached is a letter from Mayor Ira responding to the Grand Jury's report which, if <br /> approved by the City Council, will be forwarded to the Grand Jury's attention. <br /> Alternative <br /> The City is required to respond to the Grand Jury report by today, September 26, 2005 <br /> (the Court Executive Officer's office is permitting the letter to be delivered after Council <br /> action on this date); however, Council could choose to modify the letter. <br /> Fiscal Impact <br /> e is no fiscal impact to the City associated with this item. <br /> I ra <br /> Mayor <br />
