.--,..~,...-,,- .c,

-'

214

regulations. It is felt this matter could be a study by the newly formed Operational
Policies Committee in cooperation with the Homeowners Association and the Police De-
partment.

-

Commissioner Pound mentioned a large model homes' sign in Marlin Park, Redwood Shores,
which was left by the contractor. Interested citizens in that area would like to know
if they may use that sign as a bulletin board., This will be looked into and a report
made at a later date.

Commissioner Guida reported that the Redwood Shores baseball diamond was in very bad
condition. Mitchell Field had several complaints:
(1) watering schedule was inconsiderate of the players using the field,
(2) there is a concrete gutter which runs alongside the field about six feet over from
the first base line which is dangerous in that location,
(3) the diamond is a skin diamond and first and third bases are located in the dirt
while second base is in the grass,
(4) at McGarvey there is a broken board in the backstop. It was indicated these matters
would be investigated.

It was pointed out that several new practices will be created as time allows to provide
for the maintenance evaluation of the various baseball facilities which will result in
yearly schedules well in advance of the season. It is proposed that a series of main-
tenance critiques be initiated at the end of the baseball season with the various
interested parties using the facilities. It is felt that by this practice several
problems which arise during the season can be analyzed and corrected prior to the be-
ginning of the new baseball season. This practice will also assist in providing budget
requests for those items which require special funding.

With respect to the Little League use of the school facility diamonds, every attempt
will be made to more closely coordinate the efforts of the School District and the City
in providing facilities for Little League use. It was pointed out that the current
role of the City with respect to the maintenance of ball diamond facilities on school
property was limited to the clean-up, dragging, marking of the playing area and the mowing
of the outfield area. The watering of these facilities is under the jurisdiction of
the school district. It is felt that coordination of these activities can be improved.

Chairman Schenck mentioned that Mr. Dragan of the Civic Cultural Commission had attended
a good part of the Park & Recreation Commission meeting but that he had to leave before
Chairman Schenck could int~oduce him. The Commission was pleased that Mr. Dragan had
attended their meeting and Chairman Schenck indicated that the Civic Cultural Commission
would also be pleased to have some of the Park & Recreation Commissioners at their
meetings.

,

The windows in the Recreation Center were discussed. All the windows on the east side
of the building have been completed with plexiglass and wire will be placed over all
others that are glass. Chairman Schenck requested this be completed as soon as possible
for the safety of the children using the facility.

Chairman Schenck corresponded with the City Council regarding a joint Commission/Coun-
cil meeting in August. The Eouncil was agreeable to the meeting but could not ~otal-
ly attend on August 18, which was the date Chairman Schenck first suggested. It was
then proposed to move this meeting to either August 4 or August 11, 1973. Chairman
Schenck will determine a date with the Council and report back in the Commission meeting
in July.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:20 p.m.
