Chairperson Howard said she felt that some parks <br />are inappropriate for dogs due to the sports activities held there. She <br />thought maybe one park that is not used for sports activ1ties could allow <br />dogs on leashes. Commissioner Hordness asked if perhaps Don Warren of <br />Redwood Shores Inc. would consider establishing a dog area on one of their <br />undeveloped sites in Redwood Shores. A discussion was held regarding <br />possible sites within Redwood Shores. Chairperson Howard indicated that <br />this matter would have to be investigated by the Commission. Director <br />Griffiths said he would check with Don Warren later this week regarding <br />alternatives to this problem and availability of sites within Redwood <br />Shores and would report back to the Commission. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - Redwood Shores Parks <br /> <br />After the Joint Study Session and Park Tour with City Council members in <br />October, the Commissioners felt that they needed to establish a list of <br />priorities/projects that needed to be done within Redwood City and present <br />them before the City Council. There was a discussion held regarding what <br />items to prioritize and how this task could be accomplished. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - Joint Study Session with Redwood Shores Residents <br /> <br />Commissioner Slusser explained that over the past four months he has <br />received many calls from Redwood Shores residents relating to parks in the <br />Shores area. He would like to try to set up a meeting to allow the <br />community to address the Commission with their questions and concerns <br />relating to parks in this area. <br /> <br />M/S Swope/Mortensen: <br /> <br />To schedule a January public hearing in Redwood <br />Shores to discuss the residents. concerns and desires <br />regarding Redwood Shores Parks. <br /> <br />Motion passed. <br /> <br />It was decided that the hearing would be held on January 23, in lieu of the <br />Park and Recreation Commission meeting held at the Community Activities <br />Building. Commissioners Slusser, Swope and Mortensen formed a sub- <br />committee to look at the methods available to notify the Redwood Shores <br />community about the January meeting, to select a site, and to establish an <br />agenda. There will also be a meeting in February for residents of Redwood <br />City located on the west side of Highway 101. Chairperson Howard stated <br />that based on information received at the January and February community <br />meetings, the Commission could formulate a proposal during March, April and <br />May to present to the City Council in June, and in time for the mid-year <br />budget review. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - Election of 1991 Officers <br /> <br />Chairperson Howard explained that since there will be no meeting in <br />December in lieu of the Board and Commission's Dinner on December 12, the <br />election of 1991 officers would be held this evening. <br /> <br />Commissioner Swope nominated Ed Hordness for the office of Chairperson for <br />1991. As no other persons were nominated, nominations were closed. Ed <br />Hordness was unanimously elected Chairperson of the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission for 1991. <br /> <br />
