ITEM 2 - DISCUSSION AND APPROVAL OF FY95-96 WORKPLAN The Commissioners reviewed the final draft of the FY95-96 Commission Workplan and Chairperson Swope spoke about her presentation of the Workplan at the October 2 City Council meeting. MIS Morton I Truscelli: To approve the FY95-96 Commission Workplan. Supervisor Hannon noted that Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor Adilah Haqq-Smith will also be making a presentation concerning the Teen Advisory Council at the same meeting. Motion passed. Chairperson Swope noted she would like the support of the entire Commission at the October 2 meeting and asked all of the Commissioners to attend the meeting. ITEM 3 - RED MORTON CENTER FACILITY FEE DISCUSSION Commissioner Davis reported the Fee Policy Structure Committee met to review the proposed facility fees for the new Red Morton Center and discussed that fact that there are no existing guidelines on facility fee charges. He said the Center's budget is based on the facility fees determined by staff for the period of January-June 1996. He said he was inclined to go along with staffs recommendation for the first six months the Center is open, and to re-evaluate and if necessary, change the fee policy for FY96-97. Supervisor Hannon said she needs to publish the Winter Recreation Brochure very soon and would need the necessary facility fee charges as soon as possible to include in the brochure. The Commissioners discussed the current resident fees and non-resident fees and the public's reaction to those fees. Commissioner Davis felt that our fees should not be commensurate with other commercial entities in Redwood City, such as Gold's Gym, because this is a public facility. Chairperson Swope felt the fees collected should be enough to cover the cost of the program. Supervisor Hannon said it is difficult to compare the new Red Morton with any community center in the area because no other City offers the same variety of activities that we do, and as a result, it is hard to exactly determine the fees to be charged for our activities.
