Park & Recreation Commission
Minutes of June 25, 1997

Page 4

was successful then it would be more of an argument to sell a change in the
ordinance.

Terry Ander lini thanked staff for working on this issue and expressed his
approval of the recommended site. He spoke to the recommendations in the
staff report and said he felt we should focus on the Marina A si te until it is no
longer available. He felt that since this is a public facility, it should be
maintained by the City but the Shores Dogs would support maintenance by
the users. He said the Shores Dogs would raise funds for this project but it
should be the City's responsibility for funding. Mr. Anderlini said he likes
the idea of a trial period and would support that. He felt the City should
provide trash pick-up at least once a week for the site. Mr. Anderlini said he
was in agreement with most of the recommendations but was not
comfortable with a private lease arrangement. He also recommended that
dogs be required to be licensed and vaccinated in order to use the site. A
bulletin board would also be helpful at the site to provide information to the
users.

M/S Davis/Hughes: That the City Council be informed that the Park and
Recreation Commission is interested in establishing a dog exercise area
on the Marina A site.

Motion amended Davis/Hughes: That the City Council be informed that the
Park and Recreation Commission is interested in establishing a dog
exercise area on the Marina A site, and to direct staff to make the
necessary efforts to acquire the Marina A property I and then take to the
next step in the process.
Motion passed.

ITEM 3 - 4TH OF JULY PARADE ENTRY

Commissioner N ordness announced the owner of the fire truck may need
help driving the vehicle for the 4th of July parade.
