Refuse Disposal Rate Increase Recycling <br />Surcharge Report <br /> <br />-~~,._~~~-,.~-.~~_.--,_._--", <br /> <br />Report of City Manager 8/3/82 <br /> <br />Councilman Rhodes, Representative to the <br />South County Garbage and Refuse Disposal <br />District, reported that May 1984 is the last <br />possible da te when it can be expec ted the <br />Menlo Park dump site will continue to be <br />available and urged Council to protest the <br />imposition of a 25% surcharge at the Marsh <br />Road Dump for cities which do not have a <br />recycling program. <br /> <br />Discussion followed and City Manager Smith <br />commented and replied to questions regarding <br />the fac t that recycling programs cannot <br />presently be justified on the basis of cost; <br />the cost of energy to pick up IDa terials for <br />recycling; the undesirability of a piecemeal <br />approach to recycling; and the lack of <br />justification for the surcharge. <br /> <br />Reg.
