GENERAL
1.

Councilman Britschgi called attention to reports of increased crime in
Redwood City and asked if there is any assistance Council might give in
reducing the problem.

City Manager Smith mentioned the "Neighborhood Watch Program" which has been
well-received and effective, noting that such programs are particularly
effective with regard to burglaries where police usually arrive on the scene
after the fact.

-- ,

Police Chief Guardino reported that there is on-going criminal investigation
of the recent murders which prevent his commenting on them. He observed
that alert neighbors are the best crime prevention and that the Department
is ready to offer its "Watch" program to interested groups.

2.

Councilman Rhodes inquired regarding identification of solicitors and hours
when door-to-door solicitation is permitted.

City Attorney Schricker reported that hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for
those who have met any solicitation requirements.

Police Chief Guardino urged citizens to call the Police Department and
report any suspicious persons and not attempt to deal with them themselves.

ADJOURNMENT

M/S: Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, City Council adjourned at
8:10 p.m.

JACQUELINE C.
City Clerk

HILDEBRAND

\>(~ \0

Reg.Mtg.
11/1/82
Page 4

~ .=---~~-----,-~

~-Ì- -~---
