<br />., <br /> <br /> <br />""'" <br />. ~... <br /> <br />~. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />S-~I <br /> <br /> <br />REDWOOD CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION AND CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />MINUTES OF TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1987 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Chairman Buchan, Vice-chairman Swope, <br />Commissioners Anderson, Howard, Mortensen, <br />Nordness, and Weiss <br /> <br />COUNCIL PRESENT: <br /> <br />Mayor Claire, Councilmen Britschgi, <br />Greenalch, LaBerge and Bury <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Director Griffiths, Secretary Frei, City <br />Manager Smith, and City Attorney Schricker <br /> <br />Chairman Buchan called the joint meeting of the Park and Recreation <br />Commission and City Council to order at 7:30 p.m. in the Veterans <br />Memorial Building, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br />The minutes of the October 14, 1987 meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />C1or resQonde.~ce <br /> <br />Director Griffiths had distributed two (2) memos regarding renovation <br />costs for the 4ger field and possible uses of the 4ger building to <br />the Commission and Council. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - 49ER FACILITY <br /> <br />Don Davis of Redwood City Little League presented a proposal for the <br />renovation of the 4ger field developed by a youth sports committee <br />consisting of the three (3) Redwood City Little Leagues, AYSO and Pop <br />Warner. <br /> <br />Mr. Davis said the committee wanted to be involved in the decision <br />making process of what is to result of the vacated fields. He did <br />not understand why the city was willing to subsidize the 4ger <br />organization and felt more effective pressure could be used to make <br />the 4gers respond. <br /> <br />Mr. Davis said approximately 2,000 children participated in youth <br />sports. For Little League 510 hours of field time are currently <br />available and there is a need for 525 hours. Mr. Davis said there <br />are no regulation Little League fields in Redwood City and therefore <br />no tournaments can be hosted. <br /> <br />Pop Warner and AYSO are constantly competing for field usage as 36' <br />field hours are available (lighted fields are only at Red Morton, <br />Park), yet there is a need for 72 field hours. Mr. Davis stressed ~ <br />that additional lighted fields was of utmost importance. <br /> <br />
