<br /> <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Minutes of March 22, 2000 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - UPDATES <br /> <br />-Maddux Park Renovation <br />Superintendent Hover reported that Chu Chang is getting a proposal from M I G, <br />Inc. on this project. Stulsaft Park renovation will go out to bid in April. <br /> <br />-Union Cemetery <br />Superintendent Hover reported that $10,000 has been requested in the CIP <br />Budget for improvements to this site. He reported that HUCA has approved the <br />draft Master Plan and wants to put up a monument on the property with the City. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE UPDATE <br /> <br />Commissioner Swope reported that a total of 31 people attended the four public <br />strategic planning meetings. The committee is discussing ways to obtain more <br />input from the public. Superintendent Hover received information on this topic at <br />the recent CPRS Conference. Suggestions included visiting neighborhood <br />association meetings and meeting with Redwood City 2000. Commissioner <br />Joseph noted that Redwood City 2000 is interested in donating time to this <br />information gathering effort. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - 2000-2002 BUDGET PROCESS <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover stated that $7,500 has been requested in the next two <br />year budget cycle for Commission-sponsored activities, such as 4th of July <br />parade float and a phone/mail survey to obtain information for our strategic <br />planning process. Superintendent Hover said he has requested MIG, Inc. to <br />provide a cost estimate to be a consultant for our Strategic Planning process~ <br />He noted that the CIP budget will be on the March 27 City Council agenda. <br /> <br />ITEM 6 - REPORT ON CPRS CONFERENCE <br /> <br />Commissioner Joseph gave an exciting and colorful presentation about her <br />experience at the recent CPRS Conference. Superintendent Hover spoke about <br />the highlights of the conference including a new Commission/Board Handbook <br />produced by the California Park and Recreation Board Members group. The <br />Commissioners discussed merging our handbook with the one received at the <br />conference. Commissioner Joseph agreed to chair a sub-committee to review <br />both handbooks. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />-Superintendent Hover announced that Valerie Matonis has been selected as <br />our new Park Manager and will succeed Mike Payne upon his retirement on <br />April 5. <br /> <br />-The Pacific Bell Park Pitch Relay and Giants F anFest will be held on Sunday I <br />March 26 at Red Morton Park. The pitch relay begins at 11 :OOam and the <br />FanFest is from 1 :00 to 4:00pm. <br /> <br />-Superintendent Hover asked the Commissioners to begin thinking about their <br />annual Park Tour; this item will be placed on the April agenda. <br />
