Park & Recreation Commission
Minutes of April 26, 2000

Page 3

misunderstanding about the situation and he spoke with Public Works Director
Peter Ingram to clarify what actually has happened and what action the
Commission had approved. At this point, the Mayor has requested a moratorium
until he has visited the site and reviewed the situation.

Commissioner Slusser said he recently visited the Redwood Shores resident
effected by the trees and was advised that the Mayor has not visited the site.
Commissioner Swope felt there is something wrong with the ordinance if
Superintendent Gordon Mann cannot remove the infested trees. Superintendent
Hover reported this issue was brought up at a Redwood Shores Homeowners
Association (RSHOA) meeting and was planned for discussion at their April
meeting, but the RSHOA has postponed their April meeting. The
misunderstanding appears to be that many people believe this involved a
resident whose tree permit was denied which is not the case. There was
discussion about a test program in Southern California of the wasp predator but
no one knows when it will happen and how long it will take to get the results.
Commissioner Swope felt it is a case of the wrong tree planted in the wrong
location. Commissioner Slusser spoke about the status of the tree and its
appearance.

ITEM 3 -4TH OF JULY PARADE ENTRY

The Commissioners agreed to participate in the 4th of July Parade and
Commissioner Joseph and Chairperson Davis will work on the float with the
assistance of Commissioner Slusser. The theme for the float has not been
selected.

ITEM 4 - PARK TOUR WITH CITY COUNCIL

The Commissioners discussed taking the City Council to tour specific sites such
as Stulsaft Park (playground construction and lower trail), the new field at Taft
School, and Herkner Pool complex. The date selected (or the tour will be
Saturday, September 30. Staff will verify date does not conflict with any sporting
events in the area. An invitation letter will be sent to the City Council at soon as
the date is confirmed.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

-Chairperson Davis spoke about his attendance at the meeting of the
Commissions/Boards Chairpersons and Mayor Ruskin. He gave an update of
Commission activities at the meeting and spoke about the cost of having a
needs survey done in the community.

-The Park Inspection Report was discussed and the Commissioners received
their April-June schedule.

The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was adjourned at
8:54pm to be reconvened at 7:30pm on Wednesday, May 24, 2000 to be held at
the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City,
California
