Park & Recreation Commission Minutes of January 24, 2001 Page 4 -Strategic Planning Vice Chairperson La Berge will now be participating on the strategic planning committee in place of Commissioner Davis. Chairperson Joseph will speak to Commissioner Swope and Director Centeno regarding the status of the committee. ITEM 5 - CREATE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT (CCE) Chairperson Joseph asked the Commissioners to review the five objectives they would like to see the Commission accomplish. Their lists included: Davis - increase number of ballfields, strategic planning, windmill/agricultural heritage museum, parks & playgrounds, additional dog park development Truscelli - Red Morton restroom completion, windmill restoration, Stulsaft Park renovation completed; paving of open field next to Armory parking lot; repair of sidewalks at Red Morton Park; refurbish benches and BBQs at Red Morton Pa rk Commissioner Truscelli left the meeting due to illness at 9: 10pm. La Bergg - successful skatepark; aggressive search for new park sites; locate more soccer fields; having our gymnasiums open to the public on Sundays; additional park events for younger folks; more picnic and BBQ areas managed easier Walsh - create semi-annual newsletter with community activities, articles, etc. to keep people informed; create database of people and their interests which can be used to send them mailings on the Internet to advise them of upcoming items of interest to them; grand opening for underused parks (aka Park Appreciation Day) with music, clowns, balloons, etc.; new recreation programs/workshops to bring in speakers on issues such as health, diet, exercise; working cooperatively with other Commissions Joseph - windmill completion; getting students involved in Park & Recreation; expand Adopt-A-Park; collaborate with community; planning & setting goals; programming with department; utilizing parks with various events; need for more dog parks; put information on website Chairperson Joseph agreed to organize all Commissioners' lists into one document and prepare a rating list for the next meeting. ITEM 6 - PARTNERSHIP WITH SAN MATEO COUNTY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION Chairperson Joseph has met and spoken with Richard Biederman, chairperson of the San Mateo County Park and Recreation Commission, about having a representative from each group attend the other group's meeting.
