<br />,. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of August 22, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - UPDATES <br /> <br />-School Fields <br />Superintendent Hover reported that Taft field issues have been resolved and <br />the field is being maintained under a routine schedule. Garfield project is <br />moving quickly and Superintendent Hover spoke today with Norm Smith of <br />the School District because the modulars at Garfield were placed too close to <br />the field. Superintendent Hover reported he is still working on the cost <br />figures for Hoover field and advised the Commission that this matter will <br />probably go to Council for approval. <br /> <br />-Strategic Plan <br />Commissioner Swope reported she and Director Centeno are working on a <br />draft plan and that Director Centeno is also working on a Power Point <br />presentation which will be used to during community group meetings. Target <br />date for this process is January 1, 2002. She will have more information at <br />the September Commission meeting. Superintendent Hover announced that <br />a strategic plan questionnaire was available and encouraged the <br />Commissioners hand out the questionnaires this evening to park patrons and <br />to speak with them about the process. <br /> <br />-Maddux Park <br />, Superintendent Hover stated that construction will begin mid-September at <br />Maddux and construction will also begin on the restrooms at Maddux and <br />Stulsaft Parks in mid-September. <br /> <br />-Skate Pa rk <br />Superintendent Beth reported that the City Council approved skatepark at <br />site #2 or #3 in Red Morton Park at their August 13 meeting with a vote of <br />7-0. Since this meeting, the location of the preferred #3 site has moved <br />slightly due to a box culvert located underneath the site, The Commissioners <br />were provided with a copy of an aerial view of Red Morton Park with all <br />proposed skatepark sites marked. Superintendent Beth announced that he <br />has invited any interested Council members to tour the adjusted site <br />tomorrow, August 24 at 4:00pm. He also invited the Commissioners to <br />attend the tour and asked them to meet at the CAB at 4: OOpm tomorrow if <br />they were interested. He noted that approval of the adjusted site will go to <br />Council on August 27. Superintendent Beth stated that a skatepark <br />workshop will be held on September 24 at 4:00pm. <br /> <br />-Windmill Project <br />Chairperson Joseph reported the committee met last night and she is putting <br />together an organization chart to determine what needs to be done before <br />presenting the project to Council. <br /> <br />
