<br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of October 24, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />-Windmill Committee <br />Chairperson Joseph reported that she and Commissioner Walsh decided to <br />hold off on requesting donations as a result of the September 11 disaster. <br />Commissioner Walsh recommended that the project be discussed at the <br />upcoming Study Session. <br /> <br />- Pets on Pa rade <br />Chairperson Joseph reported that the date for the parade is March 30, 2002 <br />and that Shore Dogs Club would like to help as a partner in this event. <br /> <br />-Dog Park <br />Chairperson Joseph has received many calls about locating a second dog park <br />in Redwood City. Julia Mittelstadt, President of Shore Dogs Club, is very <br />supportive of this idea and would like to assist in locating a site for a second <br />park. <br /> <br />-School Fields <br />Superintendent Hover informed the Commission that the City was flipping the <br />baseball field at Garfield due to problems at the Pacific Shores facility relative <br />to sun orientation. The change order cost $115,000 and was approved by <br />the City Council. Project completion is anticipated to be July 2002. <br /> <br />The Commission was presented with a report and schematic site plan <br />showing the Hoover field as it would be developed. The staff <br />recommendation is to use a synthetic turf known as "Field Turf". A simple <br />cost analysis was presented by Superintendent Hover which was a <br />92,000,000 gallon or approximately 285 acre feet savings in water over the <br />16 year life cycle by using Field Turf or a similar product. <br /> <br />MIS LaBerge/Truscelli: To approve Hoover School field be renovated <br />with a synthetic surface as recommended by staff. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />ITEM 6 - COYOTES IN REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />f <br />1/ <br /> <br />t <br /> <br />" <br />!, <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover spoke about an article which appeared in the <br />Independent Newspaper concerning coyotes in the Emerald Hills area. He <br />also received a call from Gerry Benesch whose cat will killed by a coyote on <br />her property near Garrett Park. A "permit to trap" has been obtained from <br />San Mateo County to trap coyotes in the area and it will cost $650.00 to have <br />a contractor trap the coyotes. Each situation is handled on a case by case <br />basis.
