<br />Park and Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of August 13, 2005 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />AREA 3 - RED MORTON PARK AND SKATE PARK <br />Superintendent Hover led the group into Red Morton Park to Griffin- <br />Bechet and McGarvey Fields, so that Commissioners would understand <br />what the proposed synthetic turf project entailed. The group then <br />moved to the restroom and concession area alongside the Skate Park. <br />Superintendent Beth commented on the worn area around the skate <br />park and some recent conflicts between skaters and softball players. <br />The group then moved to the Va Iota picnic site where Commissioners <br />noted amplified sound was being used as well as portable barbeques. <br />The bocce ball court was being used by a rental activity was orderly <br />and well populated. The group, then returned to the Community <br />Activities Building, Room 1. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - DISCUSSION PARK TOUR SITES <br /> <br />Commissioner Truscelli noted that she was impressed with the condition of <br />Spinas Park, and had a much better sense of possibilities for Fleishman Park <br />as a result of the visit. <br /> <br />Commissioner Swope noted that the worn the picnic area at Hoover was still <br />useable, and that in general, parks seemed well maintained. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slusser commented that despite limited resources we need to <br />make sure that we maintain renovated parks at a high level. He noted that <br />new partnerships could be established with community groups that might <br />outfit a new facility such as a volleyball area or other recreational equipment. <br />He also noted that this process was well received in the Red Morton Facility. <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover noted that Landscape staff had implemented a rotation <br />of lead staff for the five teams, which brought new eyes to each of the areas <br />and other positive benefits. <br /> <br />Commissioner Joseph continued on the partnership theme, suggesting that <br />local sporting goods stores could be contacted in this regard. She <br />commented that she would like to see aesthetic improvements to the Hoover <br />Pool Area, and emphasized the need to keep up to date on the latest in <br />synthetic surfaces and not to only consider a single vend.or. . <br /> <br />Director Centeno announced that the Strategic Plan review cycle had begun <br />and that the annual report was being prepared. <br /> <br />The special park tour meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was <br />adjourned at 1: 10 pm to be reconvened at 7: 30 pm on Wednesday, <br />August 24, 2005 at the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt <br />Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />
