L /{l-/

REPORT

To the Honorable lVIayor and City Council
From the tit . Mana er

October 24, 2005

Subject
Purchase of Police Interceptor Sedans

Recommendation
By Motion approve the purchase of seven (7) police sedans in the amount of $159,908.56 from
S&C Ford of San Francisco, California under the cooperative purchasing agreement of the City
and County of San Francisco's bid #ITSF05000318.

Background
Redwood City's Fleet Replacement Program is designed to provide a structure for evaluating
vehicles and equipment in order to replace them at the most economically advantageous point
in their life cycle. At pre-described intervals, vehicles and equipment undergo a thorough
evaluation, including but not limited to, age, mileage, condition, maintenance history, downtime,
anticipated future repairs, usage and vehicle capabilities.

The total number of police sedans in use is 32. All seven of these vehicles are scheduled
replacement vehicles for police sedans currently in use in the Police Department, and all meet
the City's fleet replacement criteria for police sedans. If the City Council approves this purchase,
delivery of these new police sedans will take approximately 120-150 days. The ordering cut off
date is November 29, 2005.

Alternative
1. Council could deny this purchase.

2. Direct staff to solicit bids on our own, however this would probably not be cost effective
since the unit price from S&C Ford is the same unit price as last year's patrol vehicles.

Fiscal Impact
Funds for the purchase of the seven vehicles were approved and appropriated by the City
Council in the Fiscal Year 2005/06 Equipment Replacement Fund Budget in the amount of
$183,240.00.

~~ í3~ -'
La Barwacz
Public Works Superintendent

Peter Ingra~J
Public Works Services Director

@ILl ¡

EctËverett
City Manager

Attachment: None
