Veterans Memorial Senior Center – YMCA Project <br />Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br />Proposed Highlights: <br />The proposed facility will provide current <br />and new, state-of-art senior services and <br />programming. <br />Plans will maximize accessibility and aim for <br />LEED certification. <br />A generous lobby that will serve as <br />the “seniors living room” for reading, <br />conversation and relaxing. <br />A new 300- 400-seat, ADA compliant theater <br />will allow for greater access for all community <br />members and improved capacity to enjoy a <br />wide array of performances and theatrical <br />productions. <br />The dining commons and chef’s test <br />kitchen will deliver a new community meal <br />venue and improve access to nutrition- <br />focused events and educational opportunities. <br />The Veterans Memorial Senior Center will <br />include several multipurpose, flexible <br />spaces, including dedicated adaptive PE <br />facilities. <br />Gallery exhibits honoring Veterans of <br />Redwood City and highlighting NFL alumni of <br />Northern California. <br />A roof-top walk/jog track and community <br />garden space. <br />A new mini-gym will supplement gym space <br />within the park, creating new programming <br />opportunities for the community such as <br />pickleball. <br />Non-profit partner space. <br />Two Entities, Combined Vision: To Serve the Community <br />YMCA <br />Proposed Highlights: <br />The Y will continue its long history of Redwood <br />City community service in this new facility. <br />Based on input from extensive community <br />outreach and Y member surveys, the Y will <br />offer expanded programs and services to <br />meet the evolving needs of the community. <br />The plan is to build a new Y which will provide <br />multi-functional, state-of-the-art facilities <br />for people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds <br />and income levels; incorporating Universal <br />Design criteria and LEED certification. <br />A new aquatics center will serve the diverse <br />needs of the community, including athletic, <br />recreational, therapeutic and instructional <br />activities for kids, adults and seniors. <br />The Y will feature a much-needed early <br />childhood learning center, as well as spaces <br />for a wide variety of youth programming. <br />The new wellness center will include <br />cardiovascular and strength-training <br />equipment, studios for group exercise classes, <br />and spaces for a variety of healthy living <br />programs and activities. <br />The new Y will also feature places and <br />programs for people to connect and build <br />community. <br />New men’s, women’s and family/universal <br />locker rooms. <br />7.A. - Page 12
