RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF FUNDING REDWOOD CITY <br /> FERRY SERVICE FROM A PORTION OF NEW REVENUES <br /> GENERATED BY $1.00 INCREASE IN STATE BRIDGE TOLLS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City and the Port of Redwood City have <br />made the commencement of ferry service a. high priority in meeting the City's <br />transportation and land uses goals; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Redwood City has been working cooperatively with the San <br />Francisco Bay Area Water Transit Authority (WTA), a regional transit agency <br />created by the California LegislatUre., to develop a comprehensive plan for the <br />expansion of ferry service in the region to relieve traffic congestion and improve <br />air quality; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the WTA's extensive ridership studies show a sufficient <br />demand for ferry service from Redwood City to Downtown San Francisco; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the WTA will recommend the programming of capital and <br />operating funds to implement this new public transit service; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the largest portion of transit funds for ferry routes must come <br />out of new transportation revenues and the WTA is seeking to fund new routes <br />such as the Redwood City ferry service '---.'ma s-oposed increase of $1.00 to <br />State-owned bridges; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Senate Select Committee on Bay Area Transportation <br />has created an Advisory Committee comprised of representatives of MTC, transit <br />agencies and congestion management agencies to develop an expenditure plan <br />for the revenue from the increase tolls; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the California Legislature will review and approve the <br />expenditure plan through legislation for submission to the voters for approval in <br />2004. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: <br /> <br /> 1. The City Council of Redwood City supports the inclusion of capital <br />and operating funds for Redwood City ferry service in the Bridge Toll Expenditure <br />Plan and asks San Mateo County's representatives on the Bridge Toll Advisory <br />Committee and MTC to assist the City in securing these monies. <br /> <br />F:Atty/ResotReso.1325 <br />O8O1O2 <br /> <br /> <br />
