August 5, 2002 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Final Acceptance - Main/Maple & Broadway/Hopkins Intersection Improvements Project <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Accept the Main/Maple & Broadway/Hopkins Intersection Improvements Project, and <br />authorize the release of payment bond and retention. <br /> <br />Background <br />On January 14, 2002, the City Council awarded the construction contract for the <br />Main/Maple & Broadway/Hopkins Intersection Improvements Project to J JR <br />Construction of San Mateo, California for the amount of $ 347,192.55. <br /> <br />The project has been successfully completed in accordance with the plans and <br />specifications for a total cost of $ 394,490.70. Two change orders were issued for a total <br />cost of $47,298..15, which represents 13.62% of the original bid price. These change <br />orders are for the adjustment of quantities, undergrounding of overhead electrical to <br />eliminate PG&E power poles, adding an additional median island at Broadway/Hopkins, <br />and other changes due to different field conditions. The City Council approved these <br />changes on April 8, 2002 by Minute Order No. 02-86. <br /> <br />Alternatives <br />City Council authorized award of contract, which is now complete. This acceptance is <br />the only viable alternative. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impacts <br />The original budget for this project was established in 2000 for a balance of <br />approximately $286,000, augmented by reprogramming funds from underground <br />overhead utilities, Sequoia Station Pedestrian Crossing, and Caltrain Upgrades Capital <br />Improvement Program projects.
