tested to determine its Atterberg Limits {ASTM D 4318-10) to aid in engineering classification of
soil, two samples were tested for grain size distribution (ASTM D 422-63/07; D 1140-00/06) to
aid in soil classification and to measure the percentage of silt and clay fractions, and two samples
were tested for consolidation (ASTM D 2435/D2435M-1L) to aid in settlement analysis. Copies
of the geotechnical laboratorytest results are included in Appendix B and are presented on the
logs of soil borings corresponding to sampling depths.
One near surface sample was tested for corrosion potential. The corrosion test results are
included in Appendix D.
4.0 DATA ANALYSIS
Subsu rface Soil Classification
Based on the data acquired during our subsurface investígation (See Appendix A), the site is
assigned to Site Class E ("soft clay soil") as defined by Table 20.3-L of the ASCE 7-10. Type E soils
include any profile with more than L0 feet of soil having Plasticity lndex of greater than 20,
moisture content greater than 40 percent, and undrained shear strength of less than 500 psf.
Seismic Design Parameters
The following seismic design parameters represent the general procedure as outlined in Section
1613 of the California Building Code and in ASCE 7. The values determined below are based on
the 2009 National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program (NEHRP) maps and were obtained using
the United States Geological Survey's Design Maps Web Application.
Summary of Seismic Parameters - CBC 2016
(Site Coordinates 37.4914"N, t22.2263'Wl
353 Main Street Apartments
Redwood City, California
May L,2018
(Original Report Dated November 18,20L6)
1.658g
0.763g
E
0.9
2.4
L.4929 (F.*S')
L.8329 (Fu*Sr)
0.9959 (2/3 Svr,)
L.22Lg (2/3 Srvrr)
0.595g
Mapped Short Term Spectral Response Parameter - Ss
Mapped L Second Spectral Response Parameter - Sr
Site Class:
Site Coefficient - Fa
Site Coefficient - Fu
Site Modified Short Term Parameter - Srvrs
Site Modified L Second Parameter - Srvrr
Site Design Short Term Parameter - Sos
Site Design L Second Parameter - 5or
PGAm
6301842-00r.1610-038.SER.REV2
7.B. - Page 64
