Mayor Ruskin read the proclamation and commended Juan Garcia on his accomplishments, <br /> credentials and career with the City of Redwood City. Chief Building Official LaTorra <br /> acknowledged Mr. Garcia's accomplishments and contributions to the City and his profession as <br /> building inspector. Mr. Garcia stated he was honored to work with the many professionals on <br /> both staff and Council and plans to stay in the area. <br /> <br /> 7:05 p.m. - Architectural Review Committee Member Howard arrived <br /> <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br /> Alyn Beals, new Chairperson of the Board of the Redwood City/San Mateo Chamber of <br /> Commerce tbr 2001, promised another year of spirited cooperation between the Chamber and <br /> the City to help make Redwood City an even better place to live and recreate well. He stated the <br /> Chamber now has a membership of over 1,200 and that if any new collaborations come to mind <br /> they should be called upon through either Larry Buckmaster or the Board of Directors. He <br /> invited anyone to join the Chamber at the 103rd Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet <br /> coming up on January 31, 2001 at the Hotel Sofitel. <br /> <br /> Jack Stephens, representing City Trees, founded to support and expand the urban forest in <br /> Redwood City, stated that several months the Council passed a resolution of support. He stated <br /> that since November, the first planting event has occurred with 35 trees being planted on Myrtle <br /> Street. He thanked the Public Works Department, particularly Gordon Mann and Bob Mullins, <br /> and the residents of iMyrtle Street assistance as well. He further stated City Trees has received a <br /> $5,000.00 grant from California ReLeaf, a Statewide organization supporting urban forestry <br /> eflbrts and citizen outreach groups such as City Trees. The grant will allow what City Trees <br /> hopes to become a monthly sequence of planting events. Three events are being scheduled with <br /> the first on Saturday, January 27 at 8:00 a.m., planting 35 trees on St. Francis Street. Training, <br /> tools and a free lunch will be provided. CONSENT CALENDAR- <br /> <br /> Items on the Consent Calendar are considered to be routine by the City Council and are enacted <br /> by one motion and one vote. There is no separate discussion of these items unless a Council <br /> Member or Citizen so requests, in which event the item is removed from the Consent Calendar <br /> and considered in its normal sequence on the agenda. <br /> <br /> M/S Hartnett/Pierce to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the ordinances by title, <br /> adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other items.
