<br />/A ,<: .3 <br /> <br />which demonstrates that the animal represents a clear and present <br />substantial danger to the public health or safety and that due to <br /> <br />substantial risk to the public health or safety it is unlikely that the <br />animal could be safely maintained under a dangerous animal <br /> <br />permit. <br /> <br />(k) "Severe injury" means any physical injury directly caused by an animal attack <br />that consists of muscle tears, multiple punctures, broken bones or disfiguring <br /> <br />lacerations, or which requires multiple sutures or corrective or cosmetic surgery. <br /> <br />SECTION 2: Subsection (b) of Section 6.04.020 is hereby amended to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />(b) Scope of Authority of Humane Officers and Animal Control Officers. Humane <br />Officers qualified and appointed pursuant to California Corporations Code 14502, <br /> <br />who are employees of any public pound, society for prevention of cruelty to <br />animals or humane society which has contracted with the County to provide <br /> <br />animal control services, shall have the authority to issue notices to appear in <br />court pursuant to chapter 5c (commencing with section 853.5 of title 3 of part 2 of <br /> <br />the Penal Code of the State of California) for violations of state and local animal <br />control laws. This authority is based on section 14503 of the Corporations Code. <br /> <br />Animal Control Officers shall have the authority provided by state law including <br />but not limited to that described by Penal Code Section 830.9. <br /> <br />SECTION 3: Section 6.04.100 of Chapter 6.04 of Title 6 of the San Mateo <br />County Ordinance Code is hereby amended to be entitled and to read as follows: <br /> <br />6.04.100 Dangerous animal permit required. <br /> <br />4 <br />
