<br />Appendix: Project Team Bios <br /> <br />Patrick Alvarez... <br /> <br />is a Senior Human Resources Representative for the City of Redwood City, <br />where his responsibilities include recruitment & selection, employee relations, <br />training & organizational development and other human resources functions. <br /> <br />Mr. Alvarez has over 15 years experience in designing, facilitating and evaluating <br />a myriad of learning experiences. He has successfully implemented programs in <br />the areas of diversity awareness, management & supervision, customer service, <br />time management, career development and facilitation skills. Mr. Alvarez has a <br />wealth of experience in implementing a variety of organizational development <br />interventions in the areas of interpersonal communications, conflict resolution <br />and diversity management. <br /> <br />Prior to joining the Redwood City Human Resources Team, Mr. Alvarez was an <br />Organizational Development & Training Specialist with the Santa Clara Valley <br />Transportation Authority, and prior to that an Operations Manager for First <br />Interstate Bank of California. An honors graduate of California State University- <br />Hayward, Mr. Alvarez holds a BS in Business Administration and is certified by <br />the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as a Professional in <br />Human Resources (PHR). <br /> <br />Sophie Oberstein... <br /> <br />has been the Employee Development Manager for the City of Redwood City, <br />California, since August 2001. Prior to joining Redwood City, Ms. Oberstein <br />founded and managed Targeted Training Solutions, a consulting firm that <br />delivered engaging and effective customized training interventions. In addition, <br />Ms. Oberstein has been a training manager for Citibank, N.A.'s retail bank in the <br />New York marketplace and a presentation coach. <br /> <br />Ms. Oberstein holds a Master's degree in Human Resource Management and <br />post-graduate certification in Training & Development. She has been an <br />instructor in the MBA program at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania <br />and in the training certificate program .at Mercer County Community College in <br />Princeton, New Jersey. <br /> <br />She has published numerous articles in professional journals. Her book, Beyond <br />Free Coffee and Donuts: Marketing Training and Development, was published <br />by ASTD Press in January 2003. She is a past president of the American <br />Society for Training & Development's Greater Philadelphia Chapter. <br /> <br />3 <br />
