Changing Lives. <br />April 12, 2018 <br />Aaron Aknin <br />Assistant City Manager/Community Development Director <br />Redwood City Planning and Housing Division <br />1017 Middlefield Road <br />Redwood City, CA 94063 <br />RE: Child Care Funding Request for 707-777 Bradford <br />Dear Mr. Aknin, <br />6.1.E. - Page 8 <br />We are excited to be working with the City of Redwood City towards the construction of <br />Arroyo Green, a 117 -unit affordable housing development for low-income seniors at 707-777 <br />Bradford Street. Since the City selected MidPen Housing through its Request for Proposals <br />(RFP), we have worked diligently to move the project through entitlements and towards a <br />constructions start date in early 2019. <br />When the Redwood City Council selected MidPen as the project developer, it provided clear <br />direction for the project to include a ground -floor child care space that would help address <br />the enormous need for child care services in the area. The child care center has been a key <br />component of the project planning since our early stages. We have coordinated closely with a <br />child care design consultant, City staff, and Footsteps Child Care, who currently works with <br />MidPen at our City Center site and will be the future provider at Arroyo Green. We are <br />excited to be building a nearly 8,400 -square -foot facility and three outdoor play yards that <br />will serve approximately 70 infants, toddlers, and pre -kindergarten children. <br />We have worked closely with many partners to secure financing for the overall project, and <br />we plan to apply for low income housing tax credits in the second half of 2018 and start <br />construction in the first half of 2019. However, the funding sources available to the project <br />do not provide assistance to the child care component of the project, which is estimated to <br />cost approximately $3.1 million dollars. <br />We understand the City collects funds specifically for child care and believe the child care <br />center for Arroyo Green would be an excellent use for these funds.
